Day 7: Last day in Paris!

It seems VERY hard to believe that today is our last day in France.  We have had an amazing few days here and have managed to fit SO much into our time.

We began the day driving from Vire, France (south of Normandie) to Paris.  On the way, we made a pit stop in Rouen which is significant both for its city and its connections to Joan of Arc.  She was burned at the stake in Rouen at only age 19.  We visited the massive cathédrale de Rouen which is rich in history and was the inspiration for a series of many of Monet's paintings.

 


Once we arrived in Paris, we dropped our things off at the hotel and got to visit the musée du Louvre, the biggest museum in the world!  While we only have a couple of hours to enjoy the massive collection, we were able to see so many significant works of art and appreciate them in person, for the first time for most of the group!





After the Louvre we visited the Tour Eiffel up close!  We went under it and took some amazing photos.  Some chose to climb the tower, while others chose to view the tower from Trocadero, directly across from it.



We then enjoyed a river Seine cruise to get any last minute shots of Paris from the Seine.  What an amazing end to our time in France!  




We are SO thankful to our wonderful tour guide Yamina!  She put up with our slow walking and complaining, brought incredible energy EVERY day, and always had a smile on her face.  We will miss her cute accent and her love of talking and sharing with us.  Merci, Yamina!  Tomorrow we have a VERY early morning flight...  What am I saying...?  TODAY we have an early flight!



The metro was CRAZY tonight, even at midnight!

Paris Day 1!

Bonjour tout le monde! It has been a long day but we are happily exhausted after our first day in Paris.  We, our small group of 10 began our travels yesterday evening in Chicago with an 8h10 flight to Zurich!  The plane was big, they fed us well, though I think we did not sleep much due to excitement!   Once we arrived in Zurich, we got our passports stamped and found our connecting flight to Paris.  This 1 hour plane ride was shorter but much bumpier.  😑 Hooooooorayyyyy Paris!  Our driver picked us up and took us to our hotel to drop our things off.  We waited patiently (emphasis upon this....) for the rest of our group and met at the Hotel de Ville in Paris, which is their city hall.  A little fancier than ours back home, right (completed in 1551)?  This weekend is the Fête de la Musique, meaning that everyone celebrates music June 21st with outdoor concerts and street performers, but they carried it into Saturday for us. Paris: Day 2!

Another day, another BEAUTIFUL day in Paris!  But first, French breakfast... my favorite! We started early this morning with a driving tour through Paris.  We got to see it ALL! Les Invalides (the place of Napoléon Ier's tomb) Au Jardin du Luxembourg Statue of Liberty in the park nearby We learned that this tree was planted in commemoration of the victims of the 9/11 attack.  It is placed intentionally right next to the Statue of Liberty replica. l'Arc de Triomphe et les Champs Élysées! la Tour Eiffel (au Trocadero) Next, we went to le château de Versailles, originally constructed by Louis XIV "le Roi Soleil".  With over 700 rooms at 721,206 square feet, no wonder our feet were sore by the end! Last Day in France / First Day in Spain

Bonjour et Au Revoir! I'm feeling MUCH better today, so lots more photos and comments. :) We are sad to say goodbye to France today, but very excited for the adventure awaiting us in Spain.  We started off with yet another delicious petit déjeuner at our hotel and left on the bus.  Our first stop was in Carcassonne, a town which still exists within fortresses built in medieval times; some were older than the Romans in France! The bus ride to Barcelona was fantastic, and surprisingly quick!  Nadia, our fantastic French tour guide passed off the mic for everyone to share a story or something funny that has happened to them on the trip thus far.  She even gave the opportunity for someone to sing if they wanted (no one accepted)! And FINALLY...  ESPAÑA!  To get from our hotel to the restaurant, we got to the take the tram.  SO clean and simple and perfect for getting to the city.   We knew for our dinner we'd be having Tapas tonight, and were excited!  We b
